The LHS band had drum major tryouts on Thursday, May 10. Jaden Scott, junior, and Connor Philgreen, junior, were already drum majors, so there was only one to be selected.
There were seven candidates for the position. The candidates were, Ben Powers, sophomore, Kaelee Allen, sophomore, Amelia Baumgardner, sophomore, Lindsey Allen, junior, Brandi Feehan, sophomore, and KateeJo Vantine, junior.
Six of the candidates were disappointed, but the one who was not is Ben Powers. He was selected by the band to be one of next years drum majors.
It took a lot of nerve to get up in front of the whole band and conduct with all the eyes on them. “Trying out was definitely a nerve racking experience, I mean I was shaking uncontrollably,” Powers said, “I just couldn’t wait to get it over with.”
Many people can’t wait until next year. “I think next year will be a lot of fun,” Scott said.
Each year is a different experience with different people in charge. “I am excited for Ben,” Philgreen said, “He’s a great guy, and I’m sure will prove to be an excellent leader. I’m looking forward to a fantastic year with him and Jaden. Congratulations Ben.”
It is something new to tryout and be accepted as the band’s drum major. “It definitely wasn’t an easy decision switching from football to soccer, but I’m really excited to get the opportunity to be drum major,” Powers said, “It’s going to be a challenge but a challenge I’m looking forward to.”
