Proudly sporting the slogan of “Let’s Get Weird” for senior skip day this year, the Class of 2012 had a “Day at the K” on Friday Apr. 20. This is a fantastic tradition for the senior classes of Louisburg High School because it is the one day a year when the school administration can turn their eyes away and let most seniors get away with a minor infringement upon the rules.
The seniors are very appreciative of this one day of bliss and are grateful that this tradition even was started in the first place.
“It was a ton of fun for everyone who got to skip and whoever started it needs to be thanked!” Huntre Graham, senior, said.
Most students, or even people in general, did not quite understand the slogan “Let’s Get Weird”. Consequently, it has a rather odd story behind it, and behind that story lies a self-admittedly “weird” guy.
“The reason we chose the shirts is unexplainable because ‘Let’s Get Weird’ has no exact definition, it just means what it is, let’s get weird,” Brett Herbert, senior and inventor of slogan, said.
This is a rich tradition that has seen many classes pass through. One person who has worked a lot with the seniors this year and has seen, or actually not seen, many seniors throughout the years of “Senior Skip Day” is Christine Stout, LHS teacher and DECA sponsor. Stout had some positive things to say about this particular group.
“The senior class this year worked very hard this year with their GRP’s and everything. They earned the opportunity of the leaders of this school looking away for one day to let them miss,” she said.
It was another successful year of seniors “skipping” and a well-earned one at that. Students can only hope that this tradition continues and will be available for the future senior classes of LHS.
